  • Eric the first

    Terry Wheeler

    language (, Sept. 8, 2014)
Eric finds life difficult. Twelve, going on thirteen is an important time in a boy’s life and his older sister, Cynthia, ably supported by her best friend Clara, does little to help but she does make a good sparring partner, verbally and physically, although Eric seems to come off worst in their encounters.Slasher, one of Eric’s closest friends, is worldly-wise and offers advice at all times, ‘Gormless’ George spends most of his time living up to his nickname while Kevin is too spaced out to notice much at all.Jane is the object of Eric’s unrequited love although things seem to be about to change when they finally go out together. At school Eric continues to confuse his teachers, not least because of his original mode of spelling, although he seems to be making progress in French. So much so that he is persuaded to go on the school French exchange by his parents who are hoping for some respite in his absence. In France Eric comes face to face with new problems, not least smoking and drinking, but these vanish with his clothes when he goes to the beach.
